Powers of Attorney

General (Durable) Power of Attorney

A General (Durable) Power of Attorney (GPOA) is a legal instrument which allows a person to designate one or more individuals or institutions to handle financial affairs during that person’s lifetime should he or she become incapacitated, or at other times when that person cannot handle those matters. The GPOA avoids the need for a costly and time consuming court supervised guardianship if a person becomes incapacitated.

Health Care Power of Attorney

A Health Care Power of Attorney (HCPOA) is a legal document which allows a person to designate one or more individuals to make medical decisions should he or she be unable to act for himself or herself in the future due to incapacity or other circumstances.  The HCPOA avoids the possibility that family disagreements may delay the administration of health care in the event that a person becomes incapacitated.
